Food Assistance: The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) provides financial assistance for buying food. It is also possible to receive free or low-cost groceries from food banks and local pantries. You can apply in person or online. Don't have access to a computer? You can use our resource center instead.​ Apply here.

Housing Assistance: The Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) offers rental assistance programs for low income households. Local nonprofit organizations may also offer housing assistance. Apply for rental assistance here.

Utility Assistance: Low income households may be eligible for assistance with paying their utility bills through programs such as the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP). See if you qualify here.

Legal assistance: Low income individuals may be eligible for free or low-cost legal assistance through organizations such as Legal Aid or the Legal Services Corporation. Visit LegalAid here.

Job training and placement: The Workforce Investment Act (WIA) provides job training and placement services for low income individuals. Find information about San Diego Workforce Partnership here.

Childcare assistance: The Child Care and Development Fund (CCDF) offers financial assistance for low income families to help cover the cost of childcare. See if you qualify for childcare here.

Mental health and counseling services: Community health clinics and mental health centers may offer free or low-cost counseling services for low income individuals. Contact 211 to find a clinic near you.
